Nerd It Out..With Style!

Hey, everyone!

For those going back to school after their vacation, this post is about how you can go to school, dressed according to rules, and still look your best!

Girls :
I am sure your school has a certain length up to which your uniform can be. It really doesn't look bad if you get it stitched right. You don't need short uniforms to make you look good! As far as the hair is concerned, if your teachers ask you to braid your hair, do it. They never mentioned any particular type of braid, did they? There are so many ways of braiding your hair, and they aren't even time-consuming! Just YouTube them. I did it when I was in school, and I didn't mind the rule one bit! If you are asked to pin up your fringe, there are atleast five different ways that I can think of doing that right now. Again, use the internet! It will not take long at all!
If you think your collar chokes you when you put on the last button, please ask your tailor to stitch your collar loose. Trust me, it looks much better when your tie is in place. It's not meant to be worn as a long necklace!
Please do cut your nails when you wear uniform. It looks very neat and tidy. If you don't like the way your nails look, put a coat of transparent nail-paint. For some reason, I just think nails look better that way!

Boys :
Oh, dear boys. You have to understand that if you wear your pants lower than it is meant to be, it is bound to fall off one day or another. I'm not asking you to wear it high-waist or anything, just not at your knees. (Yes, there comes the exaggeration again!) If you have a problem keeping your shirt tucked into your pants, ask the tailor to stitch your shirt longer! I'm sure it will help.
Again, the collars. If they choke you, get them stitched loose! No teacher can ever catch you.
I have always been a fan of short hair on boys. So I would ask you to cut your hair as well!

Boys and Girls : Please polish your shoes as well! It looks better when they don't look like sand-storm survivors!

Have fun at school! I know I did.

Free Those Legs!

I think that dhoti pants are a beautiful creation. These are probably the most comfortable pants you'll ever get. They feel so free, and on a hot day, very airy. You can wear them casually, and you may not have thought about it, but semi-formally as well!

A casual outfit would be a pair of dhoti pants with a fitted top. Please keep in mind that with printed dhotis, you should wear plain tops, and with plain dhotis, you can wear plain or printed tops. You can wear kohlapuri chappals on your feet, or a pair of ballet flats or jhoothis.

A semi-formal look, I think, can be done better with plain dhoti pants. If you wear a pair of black dhoti pants with a bright coloured, plain, fitted tank top or halter top, with a thick belt and a pair of heels. It will look even better if you accessorize according to your outfit.

Go free those legs!

Ankle Bling

Some people may think that anklets are only to be worn with ethnic clothes, but you can actually wear them with western clothes too!

No doubt it looks absolutely beautiful with Indian traditional clothes. You have sliver anklets, gold ones, and even anklets studded with coloured stones. I still remember that when I was younger, I would always long to wear Indian clothes JUST so I could wear anklets. I would love to hear the rhythmic jingle of the tiny bells attached to the hook whenever I took a step!

Now, when I wear shorts, skirts, or anything that leaves my ankles bare, my anklets come to my rescue! Ofcourse, I don't mean the traditional Indian anklets; I mean the more western ones. The beaded ones, or the plain silver kind. They look amazing, and save your ankles from looking bare.

You can make your own anklets too! All you need is beads, string, hooks and some patience. You can make yourself custom made anklets!

Safari Special

I love wearing animal print clothing. Cheetah print to be specific. But I see that zebra print clothing is also being sold in many places! They look lovely.
However, animal print clothes can look quite disastrous. You see, when two different ferocious animals are put together, you're just waiting for a disaster to happen! It's JUST like that with clothes.

What goes wrong?

I really don't like it when two different animal prints are put together in a single outfit. Like in the picture, the two prints put together make the outfit look very chaotic, messy and well...wild. (And I don't mean the right kind of wild!) Prints look nice, but when they are dominating the outfit a bit too much, I would just walk away.

When you wear animal print dresses, make sure they aren't too fitting and have an appropriate neckline, because the dress might come across as a little vulgar otherwise.

Boys, animal print is NOT for you. Trust me. I have no more to say.

Animal print shoes..um..you can get them right sometimes, and the other times you can get them so wrong! It depends on which shoe you buy. Although, one thing I can say is, animal print boots equals a complete no-no.

How you can get it right-
One piece of animal print clothing in your entire outfit is the way to go. You could wear an animal print top with coloured pants or shorts with black platform heels, ballerinas or ankle-length boots. Minimal accessorizing, and you are good to go.

Artsy Cuticles

I've always loved doing my nails, and other people's nails. When I started watching videos of nail art, I fell in love with it even more!

Some people tend to go way overboard with how much they bedazzle their fingers, and I really am not a fan of that. I don't mind bedazzling one nail, and applying a single colour on all the other nails. If you want to make a design on all nails, you should try something simple and not too shiny.

Classy Red

My most favourite colour of nailpaint is red. I think it looks great with all clothes, and looks very classy. It somehow looks like a very mature colour to me.

The Classic French Manicure

The most classy nail-do is a French Manicure. It looks clean, it isn't too complicated, and it makes your nails look longer.

Semi-Casual Men

Hey, boyss! Another one for you.
I just have these particular visions of how semi-formal/semi-casual outfits for men should look like. So I thought I would get it out there.

For a daytime semi-casual outfit :

A pair of light pants, like beige, or a shade of brown.

A shirt of a light colour, like sky blue or maybe even a shade of
very light pink. Very bright plain shirts also look good.

A brown belt. (Or any belt matching your shoes)

A pair of loafers, or any other suede shoes.

And to lighten up the outfit, neatly rolled up sleeves till the elbow.

For a night time semi-casual outfit :

A pair of dark coloured jeans or formal pants.

An untucked shirt with a sweater vest or maybe even a waistcoat. I really think they look very smart!

A belt to match the shoes.

A pair of formal shoes.

And again, what gives it the casual look- rolled up sleeves.

I hope you like my ideas!

A High Waist is Not a Waste

High waisted shorts, again, are one of those pieces of clothing that you can make casual or formal. I for one, absolutely LOVE them! If you don't have a pair, buy one right now. I'm still looking for my pair. Haven't found the perfect ones just as yet!
This piece of clothing does wonders for a girl! It kind of gives you an instant tummy tuck, and it makes your legs look long. Along with a pair of heels, WOW! Your legs will never end. For those on the heavier side and for the people who are not too comfortable going out in shorts, you can try wearing the shorts with black or coloured stockings. It still looks just as amazing!
While wearing high waisted shorts, try to make sure that you wear a top that you can tuck in. That's the only way you can show off your shorts. For the more formal look, you can wear black, white or navy blue shorts rather than the light blue, rough looking shorts which are more casual.

I can't wait to buy my favourite pair of high waisted shorts!

Shoe-mania (Men)

After suggestions from a few guy friends, I've decided to post about mens' fashion as well! As in, what I think looks smart on them and all of my personal opinions. This post is about guys' most commonly worn footwear, and how they look the best!

Slip-On Vans :
Vans to me, look super cool and casual. A person should never make the mistake of wearing them with formal clothing. It just ruins the whole look. Vans with ANYTHING formal is a complete no-no. They are perfect for everyday use, and I am guessing comfortable too? But please, please wear them with socks! You don't want to stink up the place.
My personal opinion is that Vans should never be worn with shorts or three-fourth pants. It somehow doesn't appeal to me.
Perfect Look- A T-shirt, jeans that are not too baggy and not too skinny, and your favourite pair of Vans.

Loafers :
Now THESE are shoes that I find soooo smart! I think all guys should own a pair. They can look casual, and they can look formal. My favourite kinds are the suede ones! (For the guys who don't know the meaning of suede, PLEASE Google and update your fashion minds!)
You can make them casual if you wear it with a semi-formal shirt tucked into a pair of jeans and add a simple, single coloured belt.
The formal look is when you wear it with a formal shirt and formal pants with a belt. Please keep in mind that when you wear black formal pants, you wear a black belt and when you wear brown formal pants, you either wear a belt which is a shade of brown.

High Tops:
I am a huge fan of High Tops for women as well. I think these are the coolest shoes made for guys and girls that are meant to be comfortable and look so damn amazing! You can wear this with any casual look. Please buy atleast ONE pair everyone. It's worth it.
My favourite kind is suede, again. But the glossy kind in the picture also do the trick! You find some that are all out and too bright. Try to stay away from those. Just remember that the colours need to balance out.
Like, for me, some perfect colour combinations are colours like red, blue, neon paired with grey, black or even white.

So keep these things in mind boys! Go buy yourself some awesome shoes. Keep reading for more posts on mens' fashion.

Hue Fetish

Coloured pants. You can either go completely wrong with them, or ABSOLUTELY perfect.

What can go wrong? -
When two bright colours are put together, it can tend to look like quite a mess. And if you accessorise colourfully as well, we have a problem.

What makes it perfect? -
When bright pants like blue, pink, yellow, purple etc., are paired with neutral coloured tops like white, gray, black, peach, etc.the colours balance out and the outfit looks amazing.
Throw in a pair of high heels, and put on a sheer shirt or plain tank top (For those who despise shirts. ;) )with a pair of coloured pants, you have an amazing semi-formal outfit ready! And how about a medium sized clutch to carry those touch-up equipments we girls need?

I can't wait to buy myself all the colours of the rainbow!

Ring It!

Have you ever thought that your fingers look fat and stubby when you wear rings? I have! But then, I realized that it only makes your hand look pretty! Jewels for the fingers. Amazing.

I've suddenly fallen in love with rings! Especially cocktail rings. (As long as it's just one cocktail ring per hand.) You don't want to go overboard, now do you?
Phoebe from F.R.I.E.N.D.S. (Look at those rings!)

Have you ever seen Phoebe on F.R.I.E.N.D.S? I love the rings she wears! It might be one on every finger, but it's just the right size to not look too much. I especially love them with very simple and plain outfits. They just stand out so much and end up being the centerpiece of your entire outfit!

Sliver is my way to go. I've never really been much of a 'gold accessory' fan, but they can look very pretty too! :)

Sometimes, simple multiple rings on one finger can also look very nice. So go buy your rings and flaunt those fingers!

Unruffled Feathers

Hey bloggers! I know it's been a while since I've posted (Well, more than a while!), but I was a little busy with my board exams. But now that my vacations have started, I'll be back to blogging, and I will try being a little more frequent. :)

This post of mine is about feather accessories. For the past few months, I've fancied many feather accessories. ESPECIALLY earrings. They can be classy when you wear them with your very own Little Black Dress, or they can be casual when worn with a pair of jeans/shorts and a plain tank top.
I myself have 3 pairs of feather earrings, and I intend to buy many many more!

Now, feather accessories may not always look right. Like, my personal choice is medium sized feathers. Not these majorly huge feathers that practically reach your belly-button! (Yes, I tend to exaggerate.) I see many stores selling feather earrings that have plastic beads near the hook, and then the feather. I personally don't like those because I think the plastic beads make the earring lose its classiness instantly!
My preference is the type of feather earring that has silver or gold chains dangling from the hook along with the feather and maybe a few stones.

REMEMBER- When you buy feather earrings, make sure you try them on to make sure that the feathers hang free and are not too stiff.

Enjoy your feather adornments!
